G59/1 & G83

Engineering Recommendations (ER) G59/1 and G83 are the recommendations for the connection of embedded generating plant to the District Network Organisers (DNO) distribution systems.

G59/1 covers generators from 16 Amps 3 Phase up to 5MW.
G83 covers small scale generation up to 16 Amps per phase.

Part of these requirements cover the on site testing of the protection relays which need to witnessed by a Distribution Network Operator ( DNO) Engineer.

The method of generation may be from Landfill, or Biomass, Sewage Treatment, CHP, PV or Wind Power. Depending on the application this may ensure the soft transfer /seamless transfer of power during mains restoration
